Looking at the battery life claims for the iPhone 16 lineup … wondering if anyone has real-world experience yet
Quick summary …
- iPhone 16: Up to 18 hours streaming video or 22 hours offline video
- iPhone 16 Plus: Up to 24 hours streaming video or 27 hours offline video
- iPhone 16e: Up to 21 hours streaming video or 26 hours offline video
- iPhone 16 Pro: Up to 22 hours streaming video or 27 hours offline video
- iPhone 16 Pro Max: Up to 29 hours streaming video or 33 hours offline video
@Harlan
I don’t get these numbers … if I watch YouTube for 20 minutes my 16 Pro loses 2-3% battery … how does it last 24 hours streaming

Same here … my phones never last as long as they claim … even when new
@Sam
They probably test with Apple TV … better optimization maybe … also things like half brightness are mentioned on their site

Screen brightness, Bluetooth, 5G … all drain battery … video playback uses less power because it’s mostly one core … YouTube is different with constant data streams

They likely stream using their own service … strongest Wi-Fi … specific settings to save battery … their tests seem too optimistic for real-world use
@Vail
Probably downloaded video on airplane mode … right

It says streaming … so some online connection is needed
@Vail
From Apple’s site …
Video Playback Tests …
Testing done in December 2024 and January 2025 using preproduction iPhone 16e units … LTE and 5G networks … 2-hour 23-minute HDR movie from iTunes … stereo audio … Wi-Fi on … Bluetooth paired … Auto-Brightness and True Tone off
@Harlan
I thought this would be an actual battery test … why just repeat what Apple already said
@Harlan
The 6.1” Pro has more battery life than the 16e with 400mAh less and a brighter screen … I’ll believe it when I see it

The Pro is 6.3” … so Apple can say the 16e has the best battery for a 6.1” phone
@Wei
Ah right … I forgot about that … clever

Something feels off … lower brightness, 60Hz screen, higher battery capacity … but lower battery ratings … how
@Haze
ProMotion probably helps … it can drop below 60Hz … video is usually 24 or 30 fps
@Haze
Variable refresh rate … not always at 120Hz … OLED might make a difference too

Both have OLED displays

I didn’t realize that … but the 16e doesn’t have variable refresh rate … if the modem is as efficient as claimed … refresh rate is the main difference
