Has anyone seen this before? What is this about?

To exit recovery mode on iOS 18, press and quickly release the volume up button, then the volume down button, and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears. This will force a restart and exit recovery mode.

Looks like your phone might be lonely. It wants a mate.

Seems like we might be seeing an iPhone 16 mini soon.

It’s only about phones though.

Your phone is stuck in recovery mode. You can recover it by bringing another iPhone close to it or plugging it into a computer.

Wait, so you can use another iPhone for recovery now? That’s pretty strange.

@Morgan
Apple likely made this change because many people found it hard to recover their devices without needing a computer.

Thanks for the tip! It was a simple fix. But does this mean someone was trying to hack it?

@Oli
It’s almost impossible to hack an iPhone 99.9999% of the time. This seems like something serious happened though. You might want to replace it while it’s still in recovery mode.

Not sure why you got downvoted. The last time you could bypass an iPhone (from password or iCloud) was on the iPhone X. The exploit technically exists on every chip up to A14 but is not usable.

@Nyle
Bypass? What’s that?

I have a feeling the mod would kick me if I said the word without adding dollar signs.

This isn’t TikTok, dude.

Have you been banned on any jailbreak subs for saying ‘bypass’?

@Nyle
No bans here yet, but I don’t visit many Apple-related subreddits. I mostly use an iPhone 5s for iOS development, but I’m more into Android.

@Nyle
No modern exploit requires you to enter recovery mode. Some old ones like evasi0n (iOS 6), sure, but most modern exploits, aside from checkm8, start with sandbox escapes.

Actually, all modern bootloader exploits (just one so far) require you to start from recovery to enter DFU mode.

*Only if you’re on the latest software.

All phones in the US are made with a backdoor for the feds to get in. It’s not as hard to hack or get into someone’s phone as you’d think. Did he use a public charging station or connect to unsecured WiFi? That can really make it easy for hackers. At my local airport, they would sometimes set up phone skimmers on charging stations. If you plugged into their cord, they could get full access to your phone.
