Phones naturally heat up when charging. It’s nothing to worry about unless it’s overheating

Yes, but not to the extent where it pauses the charging due to “overheating”

I only ever use a 5w slow charger and my 15 Plus never heats up. I’m guessing it likely would if I did use a fast charger though.
