Do newer iPhones still overheat or is it better now?

I’m using an iPhone 11, and this thing overheats all the time. Charging, using apps, browsing… it’s not so bad that it shuts down, but it dims the screen a lot, which is really annoying. The phone also feels like it’s slowing down over time.

Not using a case helps a bit, but I’ve already gone through four or five AppleCare replacements since figuring that out.

My 16 Pro Max has never overheated, and I play a lot of games on it.

My iPhone 16 Pro barely ever gets hot, even when I’m pushing it hard. The cooling is really solid this year.

The next iPhone 17 Pro might get a vapor chamber for better cooling, but it could be only for the Pro Max. My 16 Pro has overheated maybe twice in the last four months.

Never heard of a vapor chamber before.

@Keller
I’ve used both the S25 Ultra and the iPhone 16 Pro. They both get a little warm when doing heavy stuff like watching YouTube in picture-in-picture while switching apps. It’s not extreme, but it’s noticeable.

@Val
Hey, does the S25 Ultra heat up when using the camera like the 16 Pro Max does?

The 17 Pro is probably not getting a vapor chamber.

The 16 Pro and Pro Max are really good with heat. My phone barely ever gets warm, even under heavy use.

My 16 Pro Max has been way better than my 15 Pro Max, which used to get hot all the time.

Mine only gets warm when charging, especially if I’m using the full 30W. It happens sometimes, but not often. Would be nice if it got hot when I’m outside freezing though.

The 15 Pros were known for overheating, but I haven’t had any issues with my 16 Pro. Best iPhone I’ve had so far.

Haven’t had any overheating on my 16 Pro yet.

My 16 Pro Max is three months old now and hasn’t overheated once.

I do live somewhere with cool weather (14°C to 20°C most of the time), so that might help. Still, way cooler than my old 12 Pro Max.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max has a new cooling system. Even when I play intense games, it stays cool.

Mine still gets hot. Do you use a case?

New updates have a lot of stuff running in the background. You might want to check a guide on turning off unnecessary features. Mine got warm after updating to iOS 18, and I had to tweak some settings.

@Ren
The Apple Podcast app makes my phone heat up a lot.

My 16 Pro Max barely gets warm, even with a case on.

I read somewhere that the iPhone 15 had a bad thermal design.
