Best Chromebook for me?

I’ve been told I can pick out a Chromebook for Christmas, but I’m not sure which one to choose. The Samsung Series 5 550 looks good, but is there a better option? 3G isn’t a must, but it would be nice. Price doesn’t matter.

If price isn’t an issue, the Series 5 is solid. But what do you need it for? Different Chromebooks are good for different things.

I mainly need something easy to carry around for taking notes in class, checking my calendar, email, and maybe playing web games or browsing this forum. Battery life and speed are really important since I need it to last all day and handle quick tasks.

Sounds like the Series 3 would be a great fit for you. I use it as a student and it meets all those needs. Just be aware that it struggles with some resource-heavy web games. Feel free to ask me if you want more details or if you have games in mind that I could test for you.

Why isn’t the Series 3 listed on Samsung’s website?

Samsung probably hasn’t added it yet because they don’t have enough stock. Google Play and other retailers keep selling out almost immediately.

I have the 550, and if the Netflix issue on the ARM version was fixed, I’d go with that one instead. My main issue with any laptop is heat and the fan, so I always have to put something under it on my bed. But I love my 550. Once you go Chromebook, it’s hard to go back to Windows.

I have the 550 too and don’t have any Netflix problems. What issue are you having?

Netflix didn’t work on the ARM version. I’m not sure if it’s fixed now.

I think the Samsung Series 3 with the ARM processor is the best. Great battery life, and it’s super light. Compared to MacBooks, it feels like carrying nothing. Plus, the exynos platform works great—no heat or noise. I do my work and light gaming on it just fine.

The only real limitation is Chrome OS itself. Otherwise, most Chromebooks are pretty similar, except for hardware differences.

None, Chromebooks are trash.

Why are you even here? This post is from EIGHT YEARS AGO.

Oh, I see now.

What about the Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 5?

Don’t.

If you’re thinking about gaming or using it for projects like running a DIY server, get a high-end Chromebook with at least 16GB of RAM and 32GB of storage (or more). That way, you can install Windows on it too. I can help you if you’re interested.

The Acer Spin is a solid choice, though a bit pricey for Chrome OS.
