Apple's AI Model File Got Bigger After 18.3… Anyone Else Noticed?

The AI model was 5.5G on 18.2 but is now 8.15G. I didn’t even enable it.

Apple charges $100 to upgrade from 128GB to 256GB. I think they should refund $20.

Basically, I just fill up the phone, and the system will delete the AI file when it’s running low on storage.

Could it be due to language settings? Mine is English UK 15PM, and it’s only 5.54GB.

I’m on a 16PM, English UK, on 18.2.1, and it’s sitting at 2.87GB.

Then what’s the point of this post?

No point? Everyone is seeing a bigger AI file compared to what they had in 18.2.

@Emory
So what are you trying to find out here? We already know that different devices have different storage requirements.

My model got bigger by probably about 500MB, no more.

Is it because of visual intelligence?

I turned it off. AI (I wish they would stop calling it that) is pointless.

Is there any way to delete the model in 18.3?

No. Allegedly, the only way is to factory reset your phone.

@Emory
How do you delete it?

This is the real issue – even with Apple Intelligence turned off, when I updated to iOS 18.3, it turned Apple Intelligence back on and downloaded a 5GB language model. No way to avoid it.

How rude…
