Apple updates its MagSafe charger firmware… what does it even mean?

Does anyone know exactly what this update is about? Seems pretty technical, but I’m curious.

Isn’t it wild that a wireless charger not only has software but can also update itself wirelessly?

It’s true. Technology is getting so advanced that most people have no idea how much is packed into their devices. Even something simple like a smart thermometer can run multiple processors to handle its functions.

Almost everything has software nowadays. Did you know some of these chargers are more powerful than early computers?

Yeah, people were once shocked to learn their phones or even their cars had software. Now it’s everywhere, even in basic gadgets like thermometers.

Why is it surprising? A complex system like this needs software to manage safety and functionality. It’d be stranger if it didn’t use software.

@Paz
People find it surprising because chargers seem so simple. Most don’t realise how much goes into managing the charging process.

@Paz
To some, it’s just a cable. Nobody thinks about what’s inside it.

Does anyone know if third-party chargers with built-in MagSafe, like Belkin’s, also get updates?

@Willow
That depends on the manufacturer. Some might, others won’t.

Here come the updates to make chargers wear out batteries faster once warranties expire. Classic move from a trillion-dollar company.

Does this update affect the connection between the phone and the charger, or is it just for security? Do third-party chargers get this too?

I think it’s just for Apple’s own MagSafe charger.

Is this for Gen 1 or Gen 2 chargers?

It’s for Gen 2. Only the 25W chargers are included.

The person who posted this should have included that info. It’s not obvious.

To be fair, the forum rules say you have to keep the original title of the article. They couldn’t change it, even if it’s clickbait.

@Nova
The article link is right there. Why not just read it?

I was worried my charger couldn’t handle the latest emojis. Glad that’s not the case.

Funny joke, but this is about firmware, not software. Got any firmware jokes instead?
