Apple comparing its new device to a 5-year-old one… is this fair?

I saw Apple comparing their latest iPhone to one from 5 years ago, so I made a meme about it. What do you all think?

They probably compared it to the iPhone 11 because they’re targeting people who are due for an upgrade but don’t want to spend too much. Though $600 for the 16e is still too much.

Yeah, I was thinking of upgrading my 11 when they release a new SE. But now that they’ve discontinued it, they’re back to overcharging again.

$600 is too much for people who haven’t upgraded since the iPhone 11? That’s $120 a year, or $10 a month if they keep it for 5 years.

And before anyone brings up the old SE models, let’s talk about their base RAM and storage. How much would it have cost to get 128GB like the 16e has now?

@YukiJane
If someone plans to keep their phone for 5+ years, why would they buy the budget model? Why not just pay a little extra for the regular one?

$10/month for the 16e vs $13.33 for the iPhone 16 with way more features.

@Uma
Some people don’t want that upfront cost. They just need a phone that works. My partner still uses an iPhone 11 and plans to keep it until it dies. She doesn’t care about the fancy features, just needs a phone for calls, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

@Uma
Yeah, not everyone cares about all the extra features. Some just want a phone that will last 5 years. The 16e does that job.

@YukiJane
Apple probably spends less than $5 on that extra RAM and storage.

And yet they charge a ridiculous amount for it, which is why I mentioned it in the first place.

Honestly, the iPhone 15 seems like a better deal than the 16e when you compare price and specs… depends on your country though.

@Han
I don’t think so. The iPhone 15 has worse battery life, a weaker chip, less RAM, no action button, and costs $100 more… just for an ultra-wide camera?

People are downvoting you, but you’re right.

@Zen
Probably people who own the 15. The dynamic island isn’t worth it, and the 15 has the same processor as the 14 Pro. The 16e will likely get two more updates than the 15.

The base 15 is probably the weakest iPhone in years. Old chip, 6GB RAM… I don’t get why people even consider it.

@Zen
Nah, the worst one is the base 14. It was literally just a rebranded 13.

Technically, it had 2GB more RAM (6GB total), which usually means longer iOS support. But yeah, you’re right, that’s why I went with the 13 instead.

@Blake
The funniest part is Apple actually redesigned the 14 from scratch, but it still ended up being the same phone as the 13.

Name another iPhone that had zero new features one year after release. The 15 is the only one. It’s just last year’s chip with fewer features.

@Zen
To be fair, this used to happen all the time. I remember my old iPhone 4 not getting Siri and being so annoyed. But yeah, things have changed a lot since then.

@Zen
If your iPhone doesn’t have the dynamic island, how will people know you have the latest one? I know someone who hates USB-C on their 15 because it looks like an Android now.
