Try not to use digital zoom and switch off long exposure… helps a lot.
Don’t pinch to zoom. Just tap the numbers at the bottom to switch between lenses. Pinching only makes the picture look worse because it’s just enlarging, not zooming.

Ohhh, that makes sense! I didn’t know, thanks a lot.
@Cedar
You’re not alone… I didn’t know that either. Makes sense when someone actually explains it properly.
@Cedar
Also, don’t forget to clean the lens with a microfiber cloth. Makes a difference.

Actually, that’s not entirely true. The iPhone automatically switches to the right lens when you zoom past a certain point. You can check this by looking at the photo info, it’ll say whether it’s telephoto, wide, or ultra-wide. Digital zoom can still be useful if you’re stuck far away, like at a concert.
Didn’t expect to see people talking about the Kiss of Life on an iPhone forum… Anyway, iPhones really struggle with zoomed photos in low light. Honestly, the S25 Ultra does better in those situations. Stick to optical zoom if you can because digital zoom on the iPhone 13 Pro just isn’t great when it’s dark. I have the Pro Max, and it’s still the same story.
@Aki
Lol, yeah, same! Didn’t expect that either.
@Aki
Even if you pick optical zoom, it still does digital zoom when it’s low light.
Looks fine to me even with zoom…
Yeah, digital zoom and the iPhone 13’s image processing just don’t mix well. In low light, the 3x telephoto gets disabled in the default camera app. A workaround is to use a third-party app like Yamera. It’s pretty cheap and works way better in those situations. You can even set up a shortcut to open it from the lock screen, though you’ll need Face ID.
Do you use a camera protector? Sometimes that messes with the image quality.
Just click on 3x to zoom, works way better than pinching.
Yeah, iPhones don’t really handle heavy zoom that well.
I’m not sure if your problem is the same as mine, but my iPhone 12 Pro suddenly stopped focusing properly too. It’s fine up close, but anything more than half a meter away just goes blurry. Seems to happen mostly with the 1x lens. Videos start out fine, then lose focus. Super annoying.
Could be dirt covering the LiDAR sensor… It’s used a lot for focusing in low light.

Maybe it’s blocked by something under the case or a cover. Worth checking.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. Sometimes the case covers it up without you realising.
@Sky
Or maybe it’s got one of those cheap replacement glass covers that messes with the sensor. Happened to me once. The LiDAR just couldn’t work properly.
