Anyone else struggling with swipe-to-type?

I’ve been using iPhones since 2007, but I’ve had enough. I have to talk about this. I recently gave Gboard another shot after a few years, and the difference is huge. I wish I didn’t have to worry about Google and privacy, but Apple’s swipe typing is painfully slow and completely inaccurate.

With Gboard, I can just glide through and get the words I want. But the iPhone keyboard keeps giving me weird words that make no sense. Like, it turned ‘keyboard’ into ‘Leonard’ and ‘Leones’… and ‘keeps’ into ‘Keis’ and ‘Keri’s’. I don’t even know anyone with those names. Why does it assume I’m always trying to type proper nouns? It makes no sense.

On top of that, the new autocorrect system keeps changing words after I’ve typed them, making things worse.

This is just frustrating, and we all know Apple isn’t fixing this anytime soon.

Had to get this off my chest.

The whole keyboard is just bad.

Yeah, it’s gone downhill. The way it changes words after I type them is the worst part. Feels like it’s working against me.

I only use swipe typing, and it works fine for me. I’ve used it since it was added to iPhones, coming from Android. But yeah, iOS definitely needs better accuracy.

Also, maybe I’m lucky, but I don’t seem to have the same keyboard issues that people complain about here.

You actually have a typo in the second word of your comment.

Didn’t even notice. Yeah, accuracy could be better. It does mess up sometimes.

Just messing with you. But yeah, we agree on this.

Try resetting your keyboard in Settings > General. Sometimes it helps. You’ll lose any words it learned, but it usually fixes weird suggestions.

I don’t use swipe typing myself, but I don’t think that matters here.

Try SwiftKey.

I don’t think third-party keyboards really solve the problem. Apple barely supports them, they take forever to load, and they don’t work as smoothly as the built-in one. Also, they miss out on things like automatic OTP suggestions. Just feels like more hassle than it’s worth.

@Jesse
Only thing missing is auto-filling OTP codes, and that’s just one extra tap. Everything else is better. But yeah, up to you.

You mean switching to the built-in keyboard and tapping the OTP?

@Jesse
Yeah, just swap keyboards, tap the code at the top, then switch back.

That’s what I thought. Apple should just let other keyboards have access to that feature. But unless the EU forces them, it’s never happening.

SwiftKey is decent, but I never really got used to it.
