After more than 10 years… the iPhone 6 era finally ends

It had a long run, but the 4.7-inch bezel design is finally being retired. End of an era or long overdue?

2014-2025… goodbye to the 4.7-inch bezel design

Honestly, it’s about time. Nostalgia aside, it was way too outdated.

I don’t know if it’s just Apple’s design choices, but I still think it looks good. Kind of like how round watches never go out of style. You might not agree, but something about that iPhone bezel design just works.

Depends on what you’re looking at. It was way slimmer than the newer ones, that’s for sure.

Yeah… but that came at the cost of battery life.

Wait for that iPhone 17 Air… they’ll find a way to make thin phones cool again.

Apple’s newest phone still has that huge notch that feels straight out of 2017.

But it has 3D Face Unlock… and guess what? None of the top Android flagships have that.

@Jory
Yeah, but Android phones have super fast ultrasonic fingerprint scanners built into the screen or the power button. A lot of iPhone users actually miss that. Plus, most of them just have a small hole for the camera, or none at all in the case of the Galaxy Fold. Samsung already has the tech to make the screen cover the camera.

Apple is just stretching this thing out as long as possible, and people keep buying it.

@Marlon
Cool… and that Fold’s under-screen selfie camera has what, 4MP? Amazing quality, right?

You can just use the front screen on the Fold for selfies…

“Oh nice, my girlfriend wants to video chat… let me just squint at the tiny screen so she can see me properly.”

@Marlon
Look, fingerprint scanners have their own issues, no matter what kind they are.

  1. Some are way too picky and won’t work if your finger has a tiny bit of dust on it.
  2. Most of them (except ultrasonic ones) are kinda slow.
  3. You have to keep them clean (when’s the last time you had to wipe the notch because Face ID wouldn’t work?).
  4. You actually have to touch them, which isn’t always convenient.

@Marlon
Gotta love getting downvoted for just stating facts.

2021…

Just goes to show how long-lasting and well-designed it was. Also, if you tweak the front a little, the XR basically has the same look.

The design still holds up. My SE 2 still feels premium. I don’t get why people call it outdated…
